Hi everyone,

Thank you all so much for your support - there simply was not enough time to list everyone last night, so here goes!

Firstly, to everyone who voted (regardless of who you voted for) thank you for making this the biggest Union elections in the UK. What a spectacular result.

Secondly, to everyone who helped spread the word, you guys are amazing! In particular I gotta thank a few names:

My long suffering housemates, Luke Oli Tom Sara and Katie, who have put up with me destroying the living room to make banners, generally making a mess and discussing the elections constantly for the last month or so! Better add Zeshan and Jamie in there... You guys have all been an amazing help on the campaign trail, and I love you all (awww....)

Dave and Lee "the bomb" Cockin who were out with me every night keeping things entertaining and generally causing chaos. All for one and one for all...

Harriet and Jason who have helped me lead my campaign so well, and are amazing examples of what SUSU Media can do!

Marky Howarth, the man with all the contacts, much appreciated mate, and for your help on the concourse.

Marianne, who pushed me in the final days when I was flagging, and showed me so much support.

There are so many other people, and I really hope I haven't missed you off, but you know who you are and I am so grateful to you all for your support.

I'd also like to reiterate what I said on stage last night - being a part of SUSU Media for the last 2 1/2 years has been a privilege, and the show you guys put on was phenomenal. Thanks for all the good times, the lessons and the experience.

Thank you all so very much,

With love,

George x

It's the final countdown (duh duh dah duhhhhhh)
Tue 3rd March 2009 @ 1:37:pm
I can't even believe it - there is less than 24 hours to go before the polling closes and I'm pretty excited. What feels like a very long journey is almost over, and if you haven't voted already please make sure you do! I'll see you on the other side guys ;) George x

So little sleep... so little time
Mon 2nd March 2009 @ 5:57:pm
The final push is here and I was worrying about it so much last night I didn't get a wink of sleep! Everyones pulling out all the stops but the consensus is the same everywhere - come Tuesday lunchtime theres not much more you can do. Thats not to say people won't vote - and I really hope they do! The final push is here and I was worrying about it so much last night I didn't get a wink of sleep! Everyones pulling out all the stops but the consensus is the same everywhere - come Tuesday lunchtime theres not much more you can do.

Thats not to say people won't vote - and I really hope they do! But I think everyone realizes that if you haven't got your message across by then you're gonna have to pull something pretty spectacular out of the bag to change your voting percentage.

I'm not sure if this post makes much sense - 36 hours without sleep does that to you - but I'm raring to go on the final straight, and can't wait for the multimedia extravaganza that is Elections Night Live '09.  I had a great time last year, and I'm sure I will this year too, despite being in the centre of it all. Expect a lot of tension, tears, and not many fingernails left by the end.

I'm baaaaaack
Sun 1st March 2009 @ 9:12:pm
Despite a few set backs over the last couple of days (banners and posters being completely annihilated as per usual) I'm back in force! A great couple of days and the message seems to be out - the elections are here and people are ready to vote tomorrow (hopefully for me!) Banners have been resurrected from the dead, posters redistributed and I'm looking... Despite a few set backs over the last couple of days (banners and posters being completely annihilated as per usual) I'm back in force! A great couple of days and the message seems to be out - the elections are here and people are ready to vote tomorrow (hopefully for me!)

Banners have been resurrected from the dead, posters redistributed and I'm looking forward to getting the votes in tomorrow!

Take it easy guys, and remember - vote.susu.org!

Cheer up, it's Friday!
Fri 27th February 2009 @ 7:10:pm
This became my new rallying cry as me and my ever hard working campaign team bowled about here, there and everywhere! People actually listened as well, quite a lot of smiles and even a few laughs as we exchanged banter. Seriously, have you seen my MASSIVE... campaign. But what today reminded me is that we must take it seriously (but not... (more)

But what today reminded me is that we must take it seriously (but not too seriously!) I'm loving every minute, and whilst I feel it could not be possible to want this job more, that we should remember to enjoy ourselves too and to focus on the future whatever that may be.

In the spirit of having a laugh, Me, Colm and Jamie had a game of rock band today, with me manning the sticks on the drum kit. To be honest, I think this face off was more important than the elections result, but maybe that's just because I won :).

Anyways, it's Kinki night tonight, best go get changed and get ready. See you all there guys, make sure to come and say hello and above all - tell people to VOTE no matter what their allegiances, on Monday at vote.susu.org.

A well rested, and up for a night of mayhem, George x

Yet another busy day
Thu 26th February 2009 @ 9:29:pm
As always, non stop! No dancing this time (well a little impromptu rave at the bus stop with some randoms) but a lot of travelling about. As always, non stop! No dancing this time (well a little impromptu rave at the bus stop with some randoms) but a lot of travelling about. It was great to get up to Winchester and see whats going on up there, although a slight pity we didn't have a bigger turn out for hustings. Having said that, great atmousphere and banter with the candidates, and something else we are doing to help plug the elections as a whole.

Obviously I want you guys to vote for me, check out my manifesto for more information. But most importantly, vote for someone! The elections will be a true representation of our student body if, and only if people VOTE. It all kicks off on Monday at vote.susu.org, so tell your mates and check it out.

One last thing - I am immensly proud of all my fellow candidates, from whatever category, for all the amazing work they have been doing this week and all the fun times as well. It all makes me proud to have been a part of SUSU, and I hope it can continue.

 Take it easy guys,

An even more tired George x

About me

More about me
Media and Communications is something I have worked to be involved in since arriving at Uni. In fact, the first thing I did at my bunfight was sign up for my show on Surge - a show that is still going to this day and has expanded to become sponsored by Fat Poppadaddy's and has led to a run of live shows in The Stags Head. But I didn't stop there - in year 2 SUSU.TV beckoned and I helped out with a couple of projects before taking over the roles of Head of Publicity and Head of Events in my third year. I've always loved writing, and with the assistance of Tom taking notes I interviewed a couple of local legends for the Wessex Scene, before sneaking backstage this summer with The Subways to bag an interview from Reading Festival for The Edge.
